Joint Pain Diet

🅰 A – Ajwain (Carom Seeds)

Why: Reduces Vata, improves digestion, relieves stiffness.

Preparation:

  • 1 tsp ajwain dry roasted.

  • Boil in 1 cup water for 5 minutes.

  • Strain and drink warm.

Time: Morning empty stomach OR after heavy meals.

Join With: Ginger + pinch turmeric.

Avoid With: Curd, cold drinks.


🅱 B – Bala Root (Sida cordifolia)

Why: Strengthens joints & muscles.

Preparation:

  • Bala powder ½ tsp in warm milk.

  • Can add a pinch of dry ginger.

Time: Night before bed.

Join With: Cow ghee (few drops).

Avoid With: Sour fruits.


🅲 C – Castor Oil (Eranda)

Why: Removes Ama toxins from joints.

Preparation:

  • 1 tsp castor oil in warm milk.

Time: Once weekly at night (mild detox).

Join With: Warm ginger water next morning.

Avoid With: During pregnancy or diarrhea.


🅳 D – Dry Ginger (Chukku / Shunti)

Why: Best for Vata joint pain.

Preparation:

  • ½ tsp dry ginger powder in hot water.

  • Or add in soups.

Time: Morning & evening.

Join With: Turmeric + black pepper.

Avoid With: Ulcer patients in high quantity.


🅴 E – Eucalyptus Herbal Steam (External support)

Why: Reduces stiffness.

Preparation:

  • Boil water + eucalyptus leaves.

  • Steam joints.

Time: Evening.


🅵 F – Fenugreek (Methi)

Why: Reduces inflammation.

Preparation:

  • Soak 1 tsp seeds overnight.

  • Eat in morning.
    OR

  • Dry roast & powder, ½ tsp with warm water.

Time: Early morning.

Join With: Warm water only.

Avoid With: Cold milk.


🅶 G – Garlic

Why: Natural anti-inflammatory.

Preparation:

  • 2 cloves crushed.

  • Fry lightly in ghee.

Time: With lunch.

Join With: Moong dal, vegetable curry.

Avoid With: Excess raw at night.


🅷 H – Hing (Asafoetida)

Why: Reduces Vata gas pain in joints.

Preparation:

  • Pinch in warm water.

  • Or add in dal.

Time: Lunch.


🅸 I – Indian Gooseberry (Amla)

Why: Vitamin C for cartilage strength.

Preparation:

  • Fresh juice 20 ml.
    OR

  • Amla powder ½ tsp in warm water.

Time: Morning after breakfast.

Join With: Honey (small amount).


🅹 J – Jeera (Cumin)

Why: Improves digestion.

Preparation:

  • Boil 1 tsp in water.

  • Drink as jeera water.

Time: Throughout day warm.


🅺 K – Kodo Millet / Kerala traditional grains

Why: Light, easy to digest.

Preparation:

  • Cook like rice.

  • Add ghee.

Time: Lunch.

Join With: Warm sambar, rasam.


🅻 L – Laksha (Herbal resin – classical)

Why: Bone healing support (under supervision).


🅼 M – Moringa

Why: Calcium & anti-inflammatory.

Preparation:

  • Moringa leaf soup.

  • Lightly sauté with garlic.

Time: Lunch.


🅽 N – Nutmeg (Jaiphal)

Why: Reduces night pain.

Preparation:

  • Pinch in warm milk.

Time: Before bed.


🅾 O – Onion (Cooked)

Why: Sulfur compounds help joints.

Preparation:

Time: Lunch only.

Why: Removes Ama.

Time: Under Ayurvedic doctor supervision.


🆀 Q – Quinoa (Modern alternative)

Why: Light protein source.

Time: Lunch.


🆁 R – Rasam (Kerala style)

Why: Digestive, anti-Vata.

Preparation:

  • Tamarind little.

  • Pepper + jeera + garlic.

Time: Lunch warm.


🆂 S – Sesame (Til)

Why: Best for Vata.

Preparation:

  • Sesame laddu.

  • Or sesame oil in cooking.

Time: Winter mornings.

Avoid With: Very high Pitta persons.


🆃 T – Turmeric

Why: Strong anti-inflammatory.

Preparation:

  • Golden milk: ½ tsp turmeric + milk + black pepper.

Time: Night.


🆄 U – Urad Dal (limited)

Why: Strength building but heavy.

Time: Only lunch, small quantity.


🆅 V – Vegetable Soups (Warm)

Bottle gourd, ash gourd, carrot.

Time: Dinner (light).


🆆 W – Warm Water

Rule: No cold water.

Sip warm water whole day.


🆇 X – (Avoid eXcess sour foods)

Avoid:

  • Curd at night

  • Cold buttermilk

  • Deep fried food


🆈 Y – Yoga + Diet

Morning:

  • Gentle stretching

  • Surya namaskar (mild)

  • Pranayama


🆉 Z – Zinc Rich Foods

Pumpkin seeds (small quantity).
