VOMITING DIET (Therapeutic Diet Plan)

Goal:
✔ Prevent dehydration
✔ Reduce stomach irritation
✔ Restore electrolytes
✔ Gradually return to normal digestion

This is a step-wise A–Z structured therapeutic vomiting diet guide including:
• Preparation method
• Quantity
• Consumption time
• Food combinations (what to join / avoid)


🔤 A–Z VOMITING THERAPEUTIC DIET PLAN


A – Apple (Stewed Apple)

Purpose: Easy digestion, mild binding effect

Preparation:

  • Peel 1 apple

  • Cut into small pieces

  • Boil in 1 cup water for 10 minutes

  • Mash softly (no sugar)

Consumption Time:
✔ After vomiting reduces
✔ Mid-morning or evening

Quantity: 3–4 tablespoons

Join With:
✓ Plain toast
✓ Rice porridge

Avoid With:
✗ Milk
✗ Citrus fruits


B – Banana (Ripe)

Purpose: Potassium replacement

Preparation:

  • Use fully ripe banana

  • Mash well

Consumption Time:
✔ 6–8 hours after last vomiting episode

Quantity: Half banana initially

Join With:
✓ Plain rice
✓ Curd rice (mild stage recovery)

Avoid With:
✗ Fried foods


C – Coconut Water

Purpose: Natural electrolyte

Preparation:

  • Fresh tender coconut only

  • Room temperature

Consumption Time:
✔ Small sips every 20 minutes

Quantity: 50–100 ml at a time

Join With:
✓ ORS
✓ Plain biscuits

Avoid With:
✗ Cold refrigerator drinks


D – Dal Water (Moong Dal)

Purpose: Protein support (light form)

Preparation:

  • Boil 2 tbsp moong dal in 2 cups water

  • Strain only water

  • Add pinch salt

Consumption Time:
✔ Lunch time after vomiting stops

Quantity: ½ cup

Join With:
✓ Soft rice
✓ Steamed carrot

Avoid With:
✗ Spices


E – Electrolyte Solution (ORS)

Purpose: Prevent dehydration

Preparation:

  • 1 ORS packet in 1 liter boiled cooled water

Consumption Time:
✔ Every 5–10 minutes small sips

Quantity: 100–200 ml per hour

Join With:
✓ Plain diet only

Avoid With:
✗ Sugary drinks


F – Fennel Water

Purpose: Reduces nausea

Preparation:

  • Boil ½ tsp fennel seeds in 1 cup water

  • Cool and strain

Consumption Time:
✔ After vomiting stops

Quantity: 2–3 tbsp

Join With:
✓ Rice porridge


G – Ginger Water

Purpose: Controls nausea

Preparation:

  • Crush small ginger piece

  • Boil in 1 cup water

  • Cool and sip

Consumption Time:
✔ Before meals

Quantity: 2–3 spoons

Avoid: If severe gastritis


H – Herbal Rice Gruel (Kanji)

Purpose: Soothing stomach

Preparation:

  • 2 tbsp rice in 2 cups water

  • Cook till watery consistency

Consumption Time:
✔ First solid intake

Join With:
✓ Salt
✓ Buttermilk (later stage)


I – Idli (Plain)

Purpose: Soft, fermented, easy digest

Preparation:

  • Plain steamed

  • No chutney initially

Consumption Time:
✔ 24 hours after vomiting control

Quantity: 1 small idli

Join With:
✓ Dal water


J – Jeera Water

Purpose: Relieves bloating

Preparation:

  • ½ tsp cumin seeds boiled in water

Consumption:
✔ After food


K – Khichdi (Soft)

Purpose: Balanced light meal

Preparation:

  • Rice + moong dal

  • No spice, no oil

Time:
✔ Recovery phase


L – Lemon Water (Mild)

Purpose: Reduces nausea

Preparation:

  • Few drops lemon

  • Warm water

Avoid: If acidity present


M – Mint Water

Purpose: Cooling effect

Preparation:

  • Crush mint

  • Boil in water


N – Nutmeg Pinch (Traditional use)

Purpose: Mild nausea control

Use: Very small pinch only
Avoid: For children without doctor advice


O – Oats Porridge

Preparation:

  • Cook oats in water only

  • No milk initially

Time:
✔ After 1–2 days recovery


P – Plain Toast

Purpose: Absorbs acid

Time:
✔ Morning


Q – Quinoa Soft Porridge

Light alternative grain
Cook very soft


R – Rice (Soft Boiled)

Main recovery food
Small frequent meals


S – Soup (Clear Vegetable)

No oil, no cream
Carrot / bottle gourd only


T – Tender Buttermilk

Diluted
Pinch salt + jeera

Avoid if lactose intolerance


U – Upma (Soft)

Minimal oil
No vegetables initially


V – Vegetable Stew (Light)

Only boiled vegetables
No masala


W – Warm Water

Small sips
Avoid cold


X – Xylitol Free Fluids

Avoid artificial sweeteners


Y – Yogurt (Mild)

After 24 hours
Small quantity only


Z – Zinc Rich Light Foods

Pumpkin seeds (small)
Moong dal


⏰ CONSUMPTION TIMELINE

🕒 First 6 Hours

  • ORS

  • Coconut water

  • Warm water

  • Ginger water

🕒 6–12 Hours

  • Rice gruel

  • Banana

  • Apple mash

🕒 24 Hours

  • Idli

  • Soft rice

  • Dal water

  • Clear soup

🕒 48 Hours

  • Khichdi

🚫 STRICTLY AVOID

❌ Fried food
❌ Spicy food
❌ Milk (initially)
❌ Bakery cream items
❌ Carbonated drinks
❌ Heavy non-veg


⚠ IMPORTANT MEDICAL NOTES

  • If vomiting persists more than 24 hours → consult doctor

  • If child/elderly → hydration priority

  • Signs of dehydration: dry lips, no urine, dizziness

  • Fever + vomiting → medical check
